Parent Teacher Interviews: Why some parents aren't happy

Given the time constraints of around 10 minutes per interview it is not surprising that parents often leave interviews feeling they didn't get the whole truth.

With little time for in-depth questioning some parents walk away still feeling in the dark. While most teachers are well meaning, time limitations coupled with school policy and political correctness can mean that it is easier to say very little that will cause concern, extend the interview and thus hold up other waiting parents.

So instead of hearing; 'your child is struggling', 'your child is well behind in this subject', 'your child is in the bottom group' and 'your child will not improve without extra assistance': parents are more likely to hear; 'he's/she's not the worst in the class', 'he/she is trying very hard, 'he/she is working at their level of understanding' and 'don't worry they'll get there in the end!'.

Over the years I have meet more than a 1000 parents here and abroad who report these same cliches and tell of their absolute frustration.

If you find yourself in this position get an independent academic assessment and a planned program of tuition to turn your child around.

Gloucester House offers both a free assessment and professional tuition.
